Get ready to take a trip around the world in this multicultural social studies lesson geared toward first and second grade learners. Children will listen to and dissect the meaning of the song “It’s a Small World” before using a map or globe to explore the different cultures and backgrounds of their classmates, friends, or loved ones. Then, learners will choose a coloring page from the Color the World series to aid in their discovery of a different culture, including its geography, unique traditions, and how it compares to their own cultural norms.
Students will be able to learn more about their cultural backgrounds as well as the cultural backgrounds of others, will be more exposed to different nationalities, cultures, and customs, and become more globally aware.
