Letters & Their Sounds

Recognizing Letters & Their Sounds

As you're reading simple picture books with your child, try pointing out characters or objects on the pages and note the letters they start with. For example, you may want to point to the picture of a bear and note that it starts with a 'b' sound, or the letter B.
Have students sort pictures, flashcards, items, or animals that begin with the same letter into piles. Keep it simple by only starting with a few letters (for example: a, f, n, t and b). This can be a revolving and changing activity for the first month of school!
